October 9 to 10, 2020 at the Valiant Lounge in the Stadium Wankdorf
October 9 to 10, 2020 at the Valiant Lounge in the Stadium Wankdorf
At a hackathon, software developers, hackers and business people meet to solve a predefined challenge in the shortest time possible.
The goal of a hackathon is to develop a working software or hardware prototype within the given time frame. We grant 24 hours! What counts are: innovation, personal development and lots of fun! And of course the competition should not be overlooked: The winning team will receive great prizes. Ultimately, the participants are eager to build solutions that eliminate real problems in real companies. The APIs and Technologies available for this purpose are mentioned in the next section.
The BSC Young Boys is organising the "YB Hackathon" together with isolutions AG for the third time. First and foremost, YB wants to create new experiences and services for all fans and YB friends. Through innovations and new technologies, the club's offer should become even more exciting and versatile. But external companies with their challenges are also welcome. We are convinced that this initiative offers added value for all parties involved. In many respects:
The hackathon lasts 24 hours and will take place from October 9 to 10, 2020 at the Valiant Lounge in the Stadium Wankdorf. In an impressive scenery and sporty atmosphere, the participants will face the challenges.
All essentials are included: Catering, drinks, a chill-out lounge for sleeping or relaxing and high-speed Internet access. In addition, an exciting supporting programme will be provided. More information will follow shortly. Stay curious!
The YB Hackathon is about finding a solution for your challenge in the most innovative way possible. It is obvious that you will integrate topics like IoT, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning or Blockchain. You can, but do not have to use the platforms of our technology partners.
Besides the partner companies, YB will also be present with its own challenges. These will revolve around the stadium experience, the club's digital offering and process optimization in the club.
The challenges will be continuously updated and published here.
We are looking for software developers, IT professionals, students, hackers and technology-savvy fans, who implement challenges, as well as companies, entrepreneurs, decision makers and creative minds, who enter challenges.
Developer: You work together with two or three other developers on a challenge. Participation is free of charge for you, but the number of places is limited. You can easily register using this Form.
English-speaking participants are also welcome. Please note that some parts of the event will be held in German.
Company:You are working in the IT department of a company and have to solve a problem? You are part of the business department or you are an entrepreneur and have a vision on how to improve processes or an innovative idea? In both cases it makes sense to enter a challenge related to the topic. Companies have to pay for participation but get rewarded with a prototype solution and many other benefits. Click here to sumbit your challenge.
One thing is clear: glory and honour await the winning team! In addition to a prize of CHF 2500 and special YB Merch articles, the YB Hackathon Challenge Cup are awaiting the winners.
But the runners-up and third place finishers will not leave empty-handed either. The runners-up will receive a cash prize of CHF 1500 as well as sepcial YB Merch articles. The third place will be rewarded with a cash prize of CHF 1000. There are also the categories "Best Presentation" and "Youngsters", which are rewarded with signed YB jerseys or YB scarves. Participation in the Hackathon is definitely worth it.
Develop the YB Arcade Game ...
Entwickle ein webbasiertes YB Arcade Game für Mobile Phones. Lass dabei Inhalte mit starkem YB-Bezug einfliessen. Das Game soll auf den meisten Smartphones spielbar und einfach verständlich sein.
Optimizing the running paths of the fans ...
When attending a football match, the needs of the visitors differ: one wants a beer, another wants to go to the toilet and the third does not know his way around the stadium and is looking for his seat.
Create an app that considers not only the running distance but also the expected waiting time depending on the current load.
Side by side with our customers. That is the credo of BEKB. Even in times of mobile banking apps and providers such as Revolut, N26 etc., BEKB wants to stand by its clients with personal advice and support. It should not matter at which contact point the customer contacts BEKB. In this way, the bank advisors become personal financial coaches who strive to ensure financial carelessness.
What could such a personal financial coach look like on your smartphone? Develop a smart assistant in the form of a personal financial coach who will assist our young and young-at-heart clients in daily situations. Ideally, this smart financial coach will be integrated into the secure environment of the BEKB customer portal.
The effort of customer service to assign and distribute e-mails to processes and to get answers to the questions asked is costly and time-consuming. Develop an automation system that recognizes patterns in messages (E-Mails, WhatsApp or Speech), assigns them to existing processes and topics and automatically provides answers or partial answers. Use artificial intelligence and semantics for this.
Modern technology for the YB betting game ...
The technology of the YB betting game needs to be modernized. Create a generic Form Builder and use it to implement the YB betting game "OUR 11" (https://www.bscyb.ch/unsere-11). The input fields and the UI should be declarative. The solution should be implemented as a static website based on serverless and headless cloud technologies. Use modern, scalable technologies.
Realize an app to support the common visit of away games. The fellow travellers can be friends or other YB fans. Search for possible fellow travellers with different criteria (e.g. "drive yourself", "need a ride", "use public transport" etc.) and with an interface to the timetable and ticket store.
Create a Multiplayer Football Game ...
Dive into the technical challenges and the game design of a multiplayer game for mobile devices. Know “Twitch plays Pokemon”? Then you know where to start. For everyone else: Imagine a digital football pitch, on which two fan teams democratically decide, through polling in real time, what their avatar is going to do next.
Smart appearance for digital natives ...
Are you a digital native and do you feel addressed by the technical communication platforms of the tax administration? No?
How would you like to be informed about taxes? Help us to improve the exchange with us.

As a partner of the YB Hackathon, your company will then benefit from many other advantages, which you can view here.
The entry is free for you. Become part of the Hackathon story and apply for a place at the YB Hackathon. Don't worry, it won't take long: we just want to know what your motivation is and what technologies you're nuts about.
A hackathon is an event where new software is developed within a very short time (usually 24h or 48h) in a team. Expert developers work together with professionals from the business sector on a problem defined in advance. The goal of a hackathon is to develop a software prototype within the given time frame, which can then be further developed if necessary. During a hackathon, personal training and fun are also important!
Whether you come from a technical or business background; are a student, professional or entrepreneur, everyone is welcome and can apply. At least half of the team should have programming skills. The number of places is limited and we will make a selection from all the applications received. It is therefore important that you state your motivation and passion for technology in a few sentences when you apply.
We select the participants according to criteria such as creativity, motivation and technology experience.
For the Hackathon you need your laptop including accessories (charger, mouse etc.). You should also bring a sleeping bag or a mattress and everything else you need for the overnight stay (toilet bag, clothes etc.). Good mood and a good portion of motivation should not be missing. Catering is taken care of.
For the challenges entered, the most innovative and creative solutions should be found and prototypes developed, which are then further developed if necessary. For the hackers we want to create a unique atmosphere in which you can learn from each other and where personal development and fun are not neglected.
The Hackathon will take place in the Valiant Lounge of the Stadium Wankdorf. On more than 600 m² there is space for the hacker groups, our eSports-Corner as well as space for food and accommodation.
A team consists of 3 to 5 participants. You can form a team in advance and let us know (by e-mail to sandra.widmann@isolutions.ch or by Telegram). If you don't know anybody, you can contact other participants via Telegram to form a team. All teams should be formed before the event starts.

The challenges are published on the website on an ongoing basis. A challenge can be handled by one or more teams. However, each challenge should be completed by at least one team. The teams can form up in advance, for example via our Telegram Channel. The final allocation will be made on October 9 with the following procedure on site:
The winning team will receive a cash prize of CHF 2500, special YB Merch and the YB Hackathon Challenge Cup. The runners-up will receive a cash prize of CHF 1500 as well as special YB Merch. Third place will be rewarded with a cash prize of CHF 1000. There are also the categories "Best Presentation" and "Youngsters", which are rewarded with signed YB jerseys or YB scarves.
The final products will be presented to the jury by the respective teams at the end of the hackathon. The jury will judge the works according to the following criteria:
Demo: Comprehensibility, good show
Business Value: Time saving, additional turnover, time to market
Technology: modern, cloud-based architecture, simple, lean
No Fake: Code is functional and not only written for the demo
Joker: Bonus points, which the jury can award subjectively
Your project will be put on Github. The jury can look at the source code.
The rights to the work remain with the team. However, the challenge sponsor receives a right of use. For the presentation you will also have to reveal the source code and put it on Github.
The main organiser is the BSC YoungBoys together with isolutions AG.
It is well known that, sleep is not the first priority at a hackathon - but of course there are enough sleeping facilities and space for relaxation. If you wish, you can bring your own sleeping bag.
Yes, food and drinks are available free of charge during the whole event.
The registration deadline for hackers is October 1, 2020 at 23:59. Challenges can be submitted until September 28, 2020 at 23:59.
