8-9 OCTOBER 2021

WANKDORF STADIUM, BERN

MAY THE FOURTH HACK
WITH YOU

Together with isolutions AG, the BSC Young Boys is organizing the YB Hackathon for the fourth time! 🎉
Partner companies and BSC YB will present their own challenges, and topics such as IoT, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Blockchain will be integrated within 24 hours around the Wankdorf Stadium.

At a hackathon, software developers, hackers, and business professionals meet to solve a predefined challenge. The goal is to develop a working software or hardware prototype that, later on, can eliminate real company's problems. Players take part in a competition where innovation and personal development are key paths to success. And to great prizes!

FAQs

According to which criteria are the participants selected?

Participants are selected according to criteria such as creativity, motivation, and technology experience.

How do I find a team?

A team consists of 3 to 5 participants. You should form a team in advance and let us know at hackathon@bscyb.ch. If you don't know anybody, or are looking for more members to join you, you can use our Slack "looking-for-a-team" channel. Join here. And remember that you need to register in the form individually.

Can I participate remotely?

Remote participation is sometimes possible, but the YB Hackathon is a physical event. We allow hybrid teams, but we expect to have at least half of the team members onsite. For more information regarding the remote participation, please contact us at hackathon@bscyb.ch.

How are the challenges assigned?

The challenges are published on the YB Hackathon website on an ongoing basis. A challenge can be handled by one or more teams. However, each challenge should be completed by at least one team. The final allocation will be made on site on October 8 with the following procedure :

1. Each team creates a ranking list of which challenges they want to work on.
2. Based on all rankings, we determine the most popular challenges, which will be worked on by several teams.
3. Starting with the least popular challenges, we assign them to the team that has placed them at the top of its ranking. If two teams have the challenge on the same rank position, the decision is made by drawing lots.
4. We assign the most popular challenges to each team that has placed them at their top.
5. After the allocation, the teams have the possibility to exchange the challenges among themselves.

Who has the right to my work and to my IP?

The rights to your work remain within your team. However, the challenge sponsor receives the right of use. For the presentation, you will also have to reveal the source code and put it on Github.

How is the winner selected?

The final solutions is presented, by their respective teams, to the jury at the end of the hackathon. The jury judges the works according to the following criteria:

Demo: Comprehensibility and good show
Business Value: Time saving, additional turnover and time to market
Technology: Modern, cloud-based architecture, simple and lean
No Fake: Code is functional and not only written for the demo
Joker: Bonus points, which the jury can award subjectively

Your project is put on Github, so the jury can look at the source code.

Where will I sleep?

There will be an area for you to to sleep as much as you prefer. It's really up to you. But don't forget that while you are sleeping, the competition doesn't stop! 😉

What do I have to bring?

You need your laptop and its accessories (charger, mouse, etc.). You should also bring a sleeping bag or a mattress, as everything else needed for the overnight stay (toilet bag, clothes, etc.). But above it all, don't forget the good mood and a good portion of motivation! Food and drinks are available and free of charge during the whole event. 😉

When is the closing date for registration?

The closing date for registration at the YB Hackathon 2021 will be available soon. Stay tuned! 👀
